Hearing on Former V.PM Ahmetaj Postponed
Court session against the former minister, Arben Ahmetaj, who is accused of abuse of office regarding the privatization of the former bread factory, was postponed to February 2nd, while this Thursday the former minister was represented by his lawyer.
On December 7 of the previous year, SPAK formally charged Arben Ahmetaj with the criminal offense of abuse of office for the privatization of the former "Buka" factory, which, according to SPAK, has caused the state a loss of 7 billion ALL.
Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime closed the investigations for the former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, while the investigations continue for the businessman Lirim Fezollari, with whom it is suspected that Ahmetaj had more than institutional relations.
Six former employees of the Ministry of Finance are also under investigation.
Former Minister of Finance declared on the run that in the procedure for the privatization of the bread factory in the "May 5" area in Tirana, he protected the interests of the state and did not violate his duty.
Therefore, Arben Ahmetaj has another open case in SPAK related to incinerators, for which he was declared wanted in July of this year for several charges, the most serious of which is money laundering.
Ahmetaj, as the former Minister of Finance and Economy, was placed under investigation for the files of the incinerators, after investigations into a computer belonging to businessman Klodian Zoto, which turned out to have paid for and booked luxury trips for the former functionary, the value of which was calculated by SPAK in the amount of 34 thousand euros.
SPAK refers to a series of testimonies from businessmen that show that the villas in Palasa and Hamallaj are connected to Arben Ahmetaj, while messages and communications with other people, former officials and businessmen were obtained from a seized blackberry phone.
A few days ago, Ahmetaj lost his deputy's mandate, as he did not appear in the Assembly for almost 6 months, while his place was taken by Plarent Ndreca.
