Infectious Diseases’ Head Urges Albanians to Get Covid Jabs
Head of Infectious Diseases Hospital, Najada Çomo has stated Wednesday that there are currently 50 patients admitted to hospitals as she stressed that if these people had been vaccinated, the number of deaths would have been much lower.
At today's meeting of the Technical Committee of Experts, Çomo said that 10% of them are severe and critical forms, while adding that most of them are unvaccinated, adding that despite the decrease in numbers, there are victims every day.
"A month ago we had 175 patients hospitalized. Today the number of patients is 50 hospitalized. 10% are severe and critical forms. Most of those hospitalized are unvaccinated. Despite the fact that we have a decrease in hospitalization, we have deaths every day.
If these people had been vaccinated, the loss of life would have been lower. Despite the fact that we have a decrease in the number of cases, the vaccination process must continue", said Çomo.
On the other hand, the Head of the Infectious Pediatrics Service, Gjoorgjina Kuli said that there are 7 children affected by COVID hospitalized who are in stable condition and waiting for the end of therapy.
"Last week there was a decrease in hospitalizations. 7 children who are in hospitals are in a calm state and awaiting the end of therapy. We insist on vaccinating the over-12 age group as it is an active age group", she declared.
Meanwhile, the Head of the National Emergency, Skënder Brataj said that vaccination is the strongest weapon while emphasizing the third dose.
"Certainly all indicators are declining. There is a decrease in the number of calls and visits for COVID. Severe forms are what lead us most to hospitals. Of course vaccination is our best weapon. Even the third doses should be continued so as not to have deterioration in the next month. It is a dynamic process that we are evaluating every day", said Brataj.
