Six officials from the Municipality of Divjakë have been convicted following an investigation by Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organised Crime (SPAK) into alleged violations of public procurement laws.

The Special Prosecution referred the case to court against Dorjan Spaho, Sara Xhepa (Doko), Roklejd Malko, Fatos Veliu, Elbareta Nishica and Vojsava Leçini, accusing them of violating the equality of participants in public tenders, an offence under Albania's Criminal Code.

The court found all six defendants guilty. Each initially received a one-year prison sentence, which was subsequently reduced to eight months under the applicable provisions of Albanian law.

However, the prison terms were suspended for all six officials. Instead, the court ordered them to perform 120 hours of unpaid community service under probation supervision.

In addition, Fatos Veliu, Elbareta Nishica and Vojsava Leçini were barred from holding public office for five years. The convicted officials are also required not to commit any further criminal offence during a 16-month probation period.

The convictions stem from a SPAK investigation into alleged irregularities in public procurement procedures conducted by the Municipality of Divjakë. Authorities have not released further details regarding the specific tender at the centre of the case.
