Investment at New Power Substation in Golem

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, inspected on Thursday the investments in the Golem electrical substation, within the framework of the plan of measures to improve the energy supply in the tourist and coastal areas.

During the inspection, the minister emphasized that the new substation has doubled its capacity, going from 31.5 megawatts to 80 megawatts, which is expected to provide a long-term solution for the energy supply for around 50 thousand residents in the areas of Golem and Mali i Robi.

Karakaçi stated that the investment is part of a broader plan undertaken by the Power System Distributor OSSH for 2026, which aims to improve the energy infrastructure along the entire coast.

For his part, the head of the OSSH, Bendian Dalipi, announced that the Golem substation supplies the entire coastline from Golem to Qerret and is essential for meeting the increased demand, as a result of the intensive urban development in the area.

He added that in addition to increasing capacity, other investments in the network are also planned to respond to new constructions and increased consumption.

According to him, the OSSH has also started the process of strengthening the Porto Romano substation, where the addition of a second transformer and the increase in capacity from 50 mega to 100 megawatts is foreseen.

Likewise, in the Golem beach area, investments are being made in new 20 kV cabins, replacing the existing 6 kV network, as well as in new distribution lines, with the aim of increasing the security and quality of supply.

Minister Karakaçi emphasized that these investments are important not only for reducing losses in the network but also for guaranteeing a stable and quality supply for residents and businesses, especially during the tourist season.

He also underlined that investments in the medium voltage network are accompanied in parallel by interventions in the low voltage network, aiming to minimize interruptions and defects.

The Minister informed that the first phase of investments in the medium voltage network has also been completed in the Spille area, while work is expected to continue in a second phase, to address the remaining problems. “All these investments are part of an integrated plan of measures, which aims to provide a final solution to the energy supply in the tourist areas of the Adriatic coast, as well as to support the further development of these areas”, said Karakaçi.

For his part, Dalipi announced that the OSSH is in the process of improving the balancing of the network, in cooperation with the Power Transmission Operator OST, with the aim of better managing energy flows and avoiding overloads.

He added that a plan has also been drafted for operating with increased personnel during the summer season.
