Iran-Linked Hackers Claim Breach of Albanian Parliament Emails Amid Ongoing Cyber Tensions

Despite facing days of intense military confrontation with the United States and Israel, Iran-linked hackers appear to have continued cyber operations targeting Albania’s digital infrastructure.

On Tuesday, the hacking group Homeland Justice, widely believed to be affiliated with Iran, posted messages on the messaging platform Telegram claiming they had infiltrated the email communications of the administration of the Parliament of Albania.

The group first published a post at 11:46 a.m., sharing what it said were screenshots of internal email exchanges between parliamentary staff. The messages appeared to be dated March 4, 2024, and included discussions related to notifications for plenary sessions, the submission of official documents, and the parliament’s working calendar.

In a second post at 12:58 p.m., the hackers released additional screenshots showing what they claimed were extended email exchanges from February and March.

Parliament confirmed that internal email services used by the parliamentary administration had been temporarily suspended, affecting both incoming and outgoing communications.

The same sources said cybersecurity experts from the National Agency for Information Society and the National Authority for Electronic Certification and Cyber Security were present at the parliament’s leadership offices for several hours, working to assess the causes and potential impact of the cyberattack.

Officials at the Albanian parliament said the situation is currently under evaluation and that an official statement will be issued after further assessment.
