Italian Man Arrested in Tirana After Alleged Car Theft and Police Chase
A 35-year-old Italian national has been arrested in Tirana after allegedly stealing an Audi Q5 and attempting to flee from police, according to Albanian authorities.
Police identified the suspect as Angelo Esposito, a resident of Italy. Authorities said he allegedly stole the vehicle at around 7 p.m. on August 29, 2026, from a secondary road connecting Durrës and Tirana, near a business premises.
Police launched an operation, code-named “Last Escape,” after receiving a report of the theft. Officers from Tirana’s Police Commissariat No. 6, working with traffic police, pursued the vehicle and arrested the suspect.
According to police, Esposito, while attempting to escape, collided with several other vehicles before striking a police officer with the stolen car.
The officer suffered minor injuries to his arm, authorities said.
Police also seized the stolen Audi Q5, which they said was being driven by the suspect without a valid driving license.
