Koman Tourist Operators Protested against Blocking of Water Vessels

Situation in Koman has calmed down this Saturday afternoon, after the tourist operators and the residents of the villages near the lake held a protest earlier today by blocking the hydro plant's tunnel. 

Following communication with the residents by the representatives of the State Police and the General Maritime Directorate, from 15:00 the free movement of tourists and visitors continues in the Koman area. 

However, the "Safe Navigation" operation continues, with the aim of blocking boats without the necessary equipment and relevant documentation. 

13 other people whose boats were blocked during the operation have applied to be provided with the necessary documents and tools. 

During the days of the operation, the owners of the vessels that were without documentation requested that the Police not block the vessels and this morning, with the help of other residents of the area, they blocked the entrance to the tunnel, opposing the blocking of the vessels. craft boats and those without documents. 

After a communication with the residents by the representatives of the State Police and the General Maritime Directorate, the free movement of tourists and visitors continues in the Koman area from 15:00. 

Residents of the area started to apply immediately to the General Maritime Directorate to certify their vessels and equipment with the relevant documentation as well as to take other security measures in order to safely carry out the navigation activity for the safety of the lives of tourists. and visitors. 

So far, 3 vessels have been provided with documentation by the General Maritime Directorate and 13 other citizens, whose vessels were blocked during the operation, have applied for equipment with relevant documentation. 

The State Police emphasizes once again that this operation is only aimed at the safety of the lives of tourists and visitors and not at penalizing the economic operators who provide the navigation service in accordance with the laws and fully meeting the safety standards. 

State Police and the General Maritime Directorate appealed once again to all economic operators that offer navigation services in lake, river and sea areas to be equipped with the relevant documentation, in accordance with the law, as well as to fulfill the criteria for passenger safety, such as is to equip passengers with life jackets.  

Also, the State Police invites citizens to report any evidence of illegality in this area. 

A day after the police action that suspended some craft boats that did not meet the safety criteria and were not equipped with the relevant documentation, the tourist operators of Lake Koman and the river Shala held a meeting with the mayor of Vau Deja, Kristian Shkreli. 

They asked for a solution and not to be hindered in their work in the middle of the tourist season.  

According to them, the boats meet the safety conditions and with their blocking they are damaging the economy of many families.  

On the other hand, Shkreli said that he was not aware of the action of the police and he will send the problem to Prime Minister Edi Rama. 

A few days ago, the police of Shkodra blocked 13 craft boats and 1 ferry on the grounds of non-compliance with safety conditions.
