Former Leader of Vlora Gang, Myrteza Caushi

Korca Court Declares Incompetency for Ex-Gang Leader’s Case

Court of Korça has declared Thursday incompetence for calculating the years that the notorious former leader of Vlora gang Myrteza Caushi, known as Zani Caushi suffered in prison. Caushi's lawyer has revealed that now that the Court has declared incompetence, the case will go to the Strasbourg Court.

The former gang leader and now inmate appeared on October 29 before the Court of Korca, where he demanded accurate calculation of sentence days starting from the time he was arrested, the time he has stayed in detention, until today.

Earlier, the imprisoned shot caller has requested twice within this year to be released from prison and claimed that he has already served 25 years in prison and that he was a family man. Caushi was sentenced to life imprisonment and is serving his sentence in the Drenova prison in Korça.

Nevertheless, his lawyer, Arben Lera told the media that at the end of the process a clearer idea will be created for the file, but today he said that “Myrteza Caushi is a case that will go as far as Strasbourg, all these things that have been done either wrong dynamics or public statements of state officials are in his favor”.

By the end of October, the legal representative of Caushi stressed:

"We have a complex file. The court rightly decided that the entire file is with all acts administered. By being administered in court, then we will have a clearer idea for Chaushi's file.

So, we will have a clear picture of the way how criminal decisions have been made. We have two criminal decisions. It is a general principle, freedom of the individual is the basic foundation. The state has the court, the prosecution, the police and the courts. Individuals must not have their rights violated.”
