Kurti Condemns Violation of the Woman in the Elderly Center in Peja
Kosovo's Prime Minister, Albin Kurti has reacted after the shocking event in a center for elderlies in Peja, where an elderly woman, was beaten by the employees of the center. Kurti said that all the institutions were engaged to shed light on the brutal case, as he called horrific what happened there.
"What we saw in the video was horrible. Every citizen is shocked. The elderlies are our most loved people. They contributed in the society so much in many different aspects," said Kurti promising that justice will be done by the institutions.
A video was shared on Wednesday on social networks where an elderly woman is beaten by two employees at the center for the elderly in Peja, the suspected abuser and the housekeeper were handcuffed. The latter was arrested for not reporting the incident to the police.
"Kosovo Police, Police Station in Peja, based on the video recording which has circulated on social media, where a worker in a home for the elderly in Peja is seen, who is exercising violence against an elderly woman. The police immediately went into action and at around 14:10, identified the location and arrested two (2) suspects related to the case. The suspects are being interviewed by the investigators of the Police Station in Pejë and further actions will be taken in full coordination with the state prosecutor," the police announcement states, emphasizing that the incident took place in the "Orenda" residence for the elderly in Peja.
Police confirmed that Aurona Pelaj is the caregiver who appears in the serious video that demonstrates the violence against the elderly woman in the nursing home in Peja.
The elderly who was violated is the mother of the martyr Taulant Nura.
