Kurti Discusses Elections in North Kosovo with OSCE Ambassador
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, held a meeting this Monday with the OSCE ambassador, Michael Davenport.
The meeting discussed the elections in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and the common areas of cooperation between the OSCE and the Government of Kosovo.
Kurti emphasized the importance of holding local elections as a constitutional and legal obligation, but also as a procedure and democratic legitimacy for institutions serving citizens.
"The need for the normal functioning of the system and state institutions made it necessary to hold elections," Kurti said.
The Serbian List, which has led the four northern municipalities, has indicated that it will not participate in the elections, according to them, until the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority is formed.
In the April 23 elections, 11 candidates will compete for mayors of four municipalities in the north, where only two of them are from the Serbian community.
