'Cannabis Cities' in Albania

The pandemic does not seem to have stopped cannabis cultivators in Albania, where even during 2020, thousands of plants are reported to have been planted throughout the country.

TV Klan has revealed some of the police data related to the cannabis disposal and what are the areas considered "black spots" in Albania.

Dukagjini, Vlora and Fushë-Kruja are the areas with the largest amount of cannabis.

In Vlora, about 37 cannabis plots have been discovered during this year, in Fushë-Krujë, 48, while in Dukagjini more than 40.

Meanwhile, there are 7 other areas where it turns out that cannabis has been cultivated in large quantities throughout this year.

The Seman forest, especially the area near the estuary of the Vjosa River, has been preferred by traffickers, with about 18 plots according to police. Also in Mallakastër, Tepelena and Memaliaj, about 47 cannabis plots were discovered.

In the north of the country, the remote terrains in Shkodra remain problematic with 10 cases reported. There were also cannabis plots in Laç, while there is an increase in cultivation cases in the mountainous areas of Librazhd, where 14 plots were discovered.

In total, there are 10 areas in Albania that are already considered key points for hashish. Mostly traffickers dig up land in the woods, or in the mountains, and start cultivating there.

In most cases, criminal groups are behind hashish in these areas, but there are also cases when residents themselves engage in the cultivation of the banned plant.
