Mosaic with Illyrian Motifs on the Way

From several weeks now, the well-known Pogradec painter and artist Anastas Kostandini has started work on the creation of the mural mosaic with the motifs of the Illyrian belt buckle discovered in Lower Selca years ago, ATA reported on Thursday.

This mural will be exhibited in one of the main locations of the city of Pogradec. The buckle, which dates back to c. III BC, is decorated with a battle scene where Illyrian warriors defeat the enemy, interspersed with mythological elements such as dragon, griffon, fish and birds. The original artifact is made of silver, and has a quadrangular shape with dimensions of 20 cm x 5 cm.

The whole scene depicted in this artifact is an interpretation of the legend of Cadmus, who, after helping the Angels to triumph over their enemies, turned into a dragon.

Anastas Kostandini, known by friends and acquaintances as Taso, is a well-known painter, mosaicist, draftsman, graphic designer, and illustrator. Kostandini was born on July 29, 1954 in Pogradec. In 1978 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana, specializing in monumental art.

He is one of the co-authors of the well-known mosaic "Albania", on the facade of the National Historical Museum in Tirana.
