No More 'Obstacles' Soon at Albania-Kosovo Border
Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Friday during the joint meeting of the governments of Albania and Kosovo, that the two countries are working for the total opening of the borders between them.
The head of the Albanian government stressed that some barriers have already been removed at the borders, where we have only one stop and one control, which has relaxed the movement of citizens, but according to him, the two Interior Ministers will intensify work to lead to the full opening of the border.
"The border control at the common point in Morina works according to the principle of one-stop, one control, making the movement of citizens more relaxed, avoiding long queues. Undoubtedly, it is not enough and our ambition is to remove the border in order to implement the 4 EU freedoms in our region, starting from the simplest and most meaningful, the removal of the border between Albania and Kosovo.
I believe that it is important for the Ministries of Interior to intensify the work to create a common database and to enable real-time control of entrances and exits at all border points of our common perimeter, which would enable us to finally open the border without losing a single centimeter on the front of the battle against illegal activity or any form of abuse of freedom of movement ", said Rama.
Further, the Prime Minister stated that an agreement will soon be signed between the two governments for the entry and exit of common goods in the Port of Durres, turning the latter a de facto port for Kosovo.
