Open Balkans Initiative, Rama Visits Belgrade
The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, arrived in Belgrade with an "Air Albania" plane to discuss the Open Balkans matter. Endri Fuga, director of communications at the Government of Albania, announced Rama's arrival in the Serbian capital.
Rama is expected to meet on Thursday with Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic and Deputy Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov.
The meeting of the three leaders in the framework of the "Open Balkans" initiative will be preceded by a meeting with representatives of companies from Albania, Serbia and Northern Macedonia, as well as with representatives of the Atlantic Council. The talks will be followed by a joint press conference of Rama, Vucic and Dimitrov.
Earlier, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister Dimitrov was received at the Belgrade airport "Nikola Tesla" by Serbian Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic.
In a statement to Tanjug, Dimitrov said that Northern Macedonia, despite the resignation of Prime Minister, Zoran Zaev, after the local elections, is fully committed to the "Open Balkans" initiative.
"I am coming to the time when, as you know, the local elections in Northern Macedonia are over, which have left consequences, even in a way, a political crisis. It is important for us as a state to send a signal and the government is fully committed to the initiative that was born in the Balkans and that aims above all at the European Balkans", said Dimitrov.
The Vice President of the Social Democratic League of Macedonia (SDSM), Muhamed Zekiri, stated that time will tell whether the "Open Balkans" initiative will be endangered after the resignation of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.
"Instead of Prime Minister Zaev, today in Belgrade Macedonia is represented by Deputy Prime Minister Nikola Dimitrov. This initiative was launched by three leaders (Aleksandar Vucic, Edi Rama, Zoran Zaev). Time will tell how much it will be endangered, but everyone knows what Zaev's resignation means," he said.
