Over Five Tons Cocaine Seized in Italy, Albanian Arrested

In Italy were seized 5.3 tons of cocaine, while five people ended up in handcuffs, among them an Albanian, during an operation against drug trafficking conducted by the Gurdia di Finanza. 

According to the Italian media, if the drug seized in the province of Agrigento in Sicily were to reach the market, it would fetch 1 billion euros. 

Police action started last night and included a chase with aircraft and patrol boats, during which two vessels were identified and blocked. 

This amount of drugs is considered the largest ever seized in all of Italy, and the authorities continue the checks to unravel all the dynamics of this network of traffickers. 

According to an official announcement from the Guardia di Finanza, the crew of the trawler "Ferdinando d'Aragona" was arrested. 

It is about 5 people, one Albanian, one Italian, two Tunisians and one French: Elvis Lleshaj, 35 years old, the Italian Vincenzo Catalano, 35 years old, the Tunisians Kamel Thamlaoui, 53 years old and Sami Mejri, 48 years old, as well as the French Yanis Malik Bargas, 19 years old. This quantity of cocaine was sent from Calabria.
