Albania and Slovenia have successfully concluded the second and final round of negotiations on the agreement in the field of employment and social security. The negotiations took place in Tirana, on 2-4 February.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation, Olta Manjani, who headed the Albanian delegation, announced that “in close cooperation with the Slovenian side headed by Mojca Prsina Kumar, we made possible the pre-signing of this important agreement”.

Manjani stressed that the agreement aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of employment and social security, guaranteeing the protection of citizens’ rights and the implementation of modern practices in accordance with European Union legislation. “Citizens will benefit from the merging of contribution periods, ensuring that years of work are not lost.” Manjani writes.

To date, Albania has signed about 28 agreements in the field of social security, including those with Turkey, Belgium, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, North Macedonia, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Romania, Kosovo, the Swiss Confederation, and Croatia. The agreements with Montenegro and Bulgaria are also expected to enter into force.

From June 1, 2025, the implementation of the pension agreement between Albania and Italy has begun, which guarantees pension rights for about half a million Albanians and 4 thousand Italians.

Agreements with Poland and Serbia are still in process, while with France, the process is towards reaching an agreement to start negotiations.

Countries such as Spain, Denmark, Moldova, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, and Latvia have agreed to start negotiations. The longest and most difficult process for the Albanian side is the one with Greece.
