PM Edi Rama Calls to Declare Terrorist Designation for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard After U.S.-Israel Strikes
Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama has called for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to be formally designated as a terrorist organization, following recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets, arguing that the time has come for “acts, not just words.”
In a post on X, the Albanian prime minister said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) should be officially treated as a terrorist entity — not only through sanctions against Tehran’s regime, but by placing it on international terrorist lists, as has already been done by the United States and Canada.
Rama stressed that Albania’s position is not solely about supporting Israel or Arab nations seeking peace, nor is it simply aligned with the stance of strategic allies. Rather, he said, it reflects the need for concrete action at a moment when, in his words, “acts are required, not just statements.”
The prime minister underscored that Albania has directly experienced what he described as aggression by Iran’s regime, referring to cyberattacks targeting Albanian state institutions in recent years.
“Albania will act in accordance with this position. We will call the Revolutionary Guard what it is and include it on the list of terrorist organizations,” Rama said, urging European Union countries to follow the same course.
“Terrorism must be named. And once named, it must be stopped,” he concluded.
