PM Rama Announces Start of Works for Vlora Airport
The works for Vlora airport have started this Sunday. During his speech, Prime Minister Edi Rama pointed out the difficulties of arriving on this day.
Rama stated that the new international airport of Vlora will be built on the track of the old aerodrome in Vlora. At the inauguration ceremony, Rama said that all that delay, all that stress to which the people of Vlora contributed with all their characteristic impatience, turned into kindness because today we are here and with a fantastic alliance for the future of the airport, which is the alliance with Munich Airport.
"Here, where we are, the aerodrome has been built since 1920, which was used for military purposes. On this trail, we today begin a new story, together with a good friend, among the most prominent of our national enterprise, a personality who with his works has made a name for himself in many countries of the world. A man I have the honour to consider my friend, Behgjet, whom I thank for being involved in this common adventure.
It happened that it was a job that had to be done here in Vlora and I had to face all the impatience of the people of Vlora who are known to be the champions of impatience in the entire Albanian universe.
It was not at all written that this process would go as smoothly as we would like. It started and was hindered several times for objective reasons that had nothing to do with us. The pandemic hit the aviation sector more than any other sector. It became almost unimaginable to think that people would be found investing in a new aviation when aviation languished in the clutches of the invisible enemy.
We did not stop until we found the right force to advance this great project, the force of Behgjet Pacolli. All that stress to which the Vlora people contributed in a special way with their characteristic ridicule and traditional rumblings turned into a kindness.
Munich Airport comes to Vlora as an operational force that guarantees not only the highest level management of this Airport but the synergy with other structures. Airports are like family clans and it is not enough to build a beautiful infrastructure or a runway that here will be 3.2 kilometers and will make available the capacity for trans-ocean flights," Rama said.
