PM Rama Invites Montenegro to Be Part of Open Balkans
Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced that the next Open Balkans Summit will be held in Ohrid on June 9-10. He said that all countries are invited to participate, among them Kosovo or Montenegro, whose Prime Minister-Designate is the Albanian Dritan Abazovic.
Rama said that one day all countries will join the Open Balkans initiative, but those who come late will lose more.
"Regarding the Open Balkans, we are determined to continue without hesitation and of course, in parallel with the continuation of the path we have started, we are very interested in including others. Because the Open Balkans was created to be inclusive and not exclusive.
Speaking of the new Prime Minister of Montenegro, imagine if someone told you 5 years ago that the Western Balkans with six countries would have 3 Albanian Prime Ministers... well today it is a reality. 3 Albanians in 6 countries of the Western Balkans. This can be a good or bad sign. Just as it is clear that the Albanians at this time who have reconnected the bridges in Europe move forward and win if they know how to behave like people of peace.
We will revisit Montenegro. It is up to the Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia to make the official invitation because the next summit will be in Ohrid on June 9-10. For my part, I will do my job for Dritan to be on the table. He has been positive towards the Open Balkans and we would look forward to it. But whether is Montenegro coming or is Montenegro not coming, Kosovo is coming or Kosovo not coming, the Open Balkans will continue. Everyone will come one day. Whoever comes late will lose more", said Rama.
