Power Outage, ERE Waits Analysis

The head of the Energy Regulatory Entity (ERE), Petrit Ahmeti, said on Monday that, "the institutions that deal with the transmission of electricity in our region, are analyzing the phenomenon of the blackout on June 21 of this year, which was a difficult situation in the whole region and not only in Albania".

During the presentation to the Assembly committee of the ERE's annual report for 2023, when asked by opposition MP Luan Baçi, about the cause of the power outage, Ahmeti informed that "defect in the 400 kilovolt lines has never happened, so they want a serious analysis".

"We are waiting for the analysis of this phenomenon, which did not happen only here, but also in the neighboring countries. It was a defect that happened first with Montenegro and then with Greece," he said.

Ahmeti emphasized that currently, the institutions dealing with energy transmission in our region are analyzing the phenomenon because the reason why this happened is still unknown.

He guaranteed that this phenomenon cannot be an internal problem that affects the lines of the country.

The breakdown of the electricity cut, on June 21 of this year, came from the interconnection line with Greece, which brought a chain effect throughout Albania.
