Albanian President Bajram Begaj has appointed Rear Adm. Arsen Burhan Mullaj as the new commander of the country’s Naval Force, following a proposal by Defense Minister Pirro Vengu, the presidency said Friday.

The decision was made on Jan. 16 by presidential decree. Mullaj replaces Vice Adm. Adnand Defrim Agastra, who was relieved of his duties as commander of the Naval Force.

The presidency said the decree was issued in accordance with the Constitution and the law governing command and control authorities of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, following a proposal by the defense minister.
