President Gives High Title to Publishing House ‘Buzuku’

The President of the Republic Ilir Meta bestowed the title "Naim Frashëri" to the Publishing House "Buzuku", with the motivation: "In appreciation of the valuable contribution as the first and independent publishing house with nationwide dimensions of contemporary Albanian literature. Publisher of many artistic, historical works of the intellectual elite, presenting the identity, culture, creative spirit of the nation and the values of the Albanian civilization ".

Addressing the participants in the solemn decoration ceremony, among whom was the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Tirana Naid Hasani, the publisher from Prishtina Abdullah Zeneli, publicists and writers, Meta said:

“30 years ago, in the very severe conditions of Serbian apartheid, the Publishing House ‘Buzuku’ was born in Prishtina, the first independent publishing house in the entire Albanian-speaking area.

This initiative, as useful as it is bold, is related to the name of Abdullah Zeneli, who came from the well-known school 'Rilindja'.

"Buzuku" was entering the spiritual life of Albanians to make history.

It is a fact that today we have in our libraries the valuable contribution of "Buzuku" for the promotion of many treasures of our traditional and contemporary literature, without forgetting the many translations of the best world literature.

But, a particularly deserved page in the publishing activity of 'Buzuku' is marked by the tracing and bringing to light of Albanian writers, both in Prishtina and Tirana, denied for decades by political censorship because of their ideas,” said the President in his remarks.
