President Honors Deceased Kosovo Freedom Martyr with Decoration

President of the Republic, Ilir Meta has awarded Friday the "Golden Eagle Decoration" the martyr of freedom of Kosovo, Nuhi Berisha after the latter’s death.

Motivation of Nuhi Berisha’s decoration was “gratitude for the unceasing and heroic resistance to the violation of the national and human rights of Kosovo Albanians by the chauvinist state in the former Yugoslavia, giving his life at a young age on the battlefield".

In his speech to the families and honorable personalities participating in the decoration ceremony, President Meta said that the oppression, violence and terror exercised against the population of Kosovo was very serious and systematic.

"Kosovo's freedom and independence have required a lot of effort and sacrifice throughout our national history. The oppression, violence and terror exercised against the people of Kosovo was extremely severe and systematic, but Kosovo Albanians all this time found all ways to organize and resist until its liberation and independence.

The people of Kosovo and its best sons, at the right time of day to combine their resistance with protests, demonstrations, peaceful resistance, with the formation of alliances with friends in the world, but when the need arises, even with armed war.

Kosovo's independence would probably be delayed even more, if it were not for its best sons and daughters, who dared and showed so much bravery and wisdom, to bring it arrogantly before history, with rifles and pens, with life and with blood.

History speaks of these great merits, and among those who have gone down in history is the prominent and unforgettable activist Nuhi Berisha, for whom we have gathered, to honor him.

Nuhi Berisha and Rexhep Mala, are two prominent names in the recent history of Kosovo. They bonded and made their common ideal inseparable.

They carried out their national and patriotic activity until the days when large Serbian police expeditions surrounded them on Kodra e Trimave in Prishtina, where the two lived together.

They swore not to fall into the hands of the Serbian police and fought on 11 and 12 January 1984. They fought and fell heroically with rifles in hand, to remain forever in the cornerstones of a free and independent Kosovo.

They fought for the Homeland to enjoy freedom, because history had taught them that peoples who do not fight disappear, and they at no cost wanted not only our people to disappear, they were convinced of the freedom and independence of Kosovo, which they enjoy today's generations.

Therefore, they remain immortal. Rexhep Mala and Nuhi Berisha have inspired generations with the most sublime feelings of patriotism and sacrifice for the nation and homeland.

After the previous appreciation for Rexhep Malë, today I have the pleasure to appreciate the comrade of his life and his ideal, as well as the inspirer of the new generations for patriotism and sublime sacrifice for the freedom of Kosovo, Nuhi Berisha with the "Golden Eagle Decoration".

Eternal glory to the memory of the prominent leaders of the National Movement of Kosovo", said the Head of State.
