Protesters Spend Night Outside Prime Minister’s Office as Demonstration Enters 22nd Day in Tirana
Protesters remained gathered outside the Prime Minister’s Office in central Tirana on Friday morning after spending the night at the site, following the 22nd consecutive demonstration held on the capital’s main boulevard, “Dëshmorët e Kombit.”
A group of demonstrators chose to stay overnight in front of the government building, where they were still present early Friday. Protesters were seen sitting on benches facing the Prime Minister’s Office, while dozens of pairs of shoes were placed on the institution’s steps as a symbolic tribute to Albanians who have left the country through emigration.
Police officers remained deployed at the scene, monitoring the situation as traffic restrictions continued in the area. Authorities have not reported any major incidents linked to the overnight gathering.
The ongoing protests, which have now reached their 22nd edition, continue to draw attention to a range of social and political concerns raised by participants. The symbolic display of shoes underscored one of the demonstrators’ key messages regarding emigration and population decline.
Traffic in the area remained blocked as of Friday morning while protesters maintained their presence outside the government headquarters.
