Protesters Tear Down Long-Standing Barrier at Kakome Amid Property Access Dispute
Tensions flared on Sunday in the coastal area of Kakome as dozens of residents, landowners, emigrants, and citizens from across Albania gathered to protest what they described as the unjust restriction of access to privately owned land.
During the demonstration, protesters dismantled a barrier that had separated the area for the past 22 years. Participants said the fence had prevented landowners from reaching their properties for decades and had also limited access for both domestic and foreign visitors to Kakome Beach.
The demonstrators, many of whom came from the nearby villages of Nivica and Shën Vasil, argued that they had been denied their property rights and called for unrestricted access to the area.
“We will no longer accept obstacles that prevent us from reaching our land,” several protesters said during the gathering, describing the removal of the barrier as a symbolic moment in their long-running struggle.
The protest highlights a continuing dispute over land ownership and access rights in one of Albania’s most scenic coastal regions. Participants vowed to continue pressing authorities to address their concerns and ensure that property owners can freely access their land.
No immediate reports of injuries or clashes were reported during the demonstration.
