Renewable Energy Grants for 8K Families

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Ami Kozeli, announced that 8,000 families will receive grants for renewable energy. He presented the financing agreement from the European Commission to the Foreign Policy Parliamentary Committee.

The program, set for the 2024–2027 period, falls under the EU’s IPA III assistance. It carries a total budget of EUR 79M; EUR 50M from the EU, and EUR 29M from the Albanian government.

The program aims to develop renewable energy, promote efficiency, and reduce consumption in public buildings. It also supports opening the energy market in line with EU rules.

Kozeli said the program focuses on four areas: renewables, energy efficiency in public buildings, the water sector, and institutional capacity.

Four municipalities will benefit from energy upgrades in public offices, kindergartens, libraries, and social centers. These buildings will use photovoltaic panels and solar thermal collectors.

The government will also offer grant schemes to help 8,000 families install renewable energy systems in their homes.

The plan includes support for 130 electric vehicle charging stations and a digital system to manage the network. This step aims to cut carbon emissions and align with EU climate goals.

In the water sector, the program will improve energy use in seven utilities. It will upgrade pumping systems and install solar panels with a combined capacity of up to 15 megawatts.

Kozeli noted that the plan also strengthens the Energy Efficiency Agency and boosts local implementation capacity.
