Request for In-Person Committees Granted, DP Thinks Majority ‘Withdrew from Coup’
Former Minister of Health and MP of the Democratic Party (DP), Tritan Shehu, has accused Wednesday the ruling majority of attempted coup d’etat in Parliament, which they gave up following the opposition’s resistance.
This statement of Shehu is related to the holding of Parliamentary Committees online and not in-person, which the Socialist Party (SP) representatives wanted to be held online and the DP officials refused to do so by even boycotting the first meetings.
Nevertheless, the Democrat stressed that this is a restoration of the legal and constitutional right not only of the opposition, but also of all the Members of Parliament, who tried to "shut up" the media in general, but also of the public opinion, who was denied the right to be informed and to follow the debates of those for whom they voted.
“Withdrawal from 'Online Commissions', withdrawal imposed by the resistance! In fact, this is a withdrawal of the majority from an attempt for a 'coup' in the Assembly!
This is a 'retrospective' of Rama & Co from an element of that scenario, which aims at deepening autocracy, deforming democracy, implementing the models of eastern autocrats.
It is not a broad 'turn' and based on understanding, the Renaissance desire to correct its mistakes nor a sign of self-improvement and awareness.
It is simply a momentary withdrawal imposed by the resistance, by the warning and the action not to recognize and participate in such worthless 'meetings' and in contradiction with the Constitution, the regulation, and not in accordance with the general epidemiological measures in the country.
So do not have illusions.
The regime remains a regime, against which the opposition actions must be stronger, more determined and wider every dayâ€, stated the Democratic Party MP.
Earlier today, the ruling majority decided to accept the opposition request for in-person meetings of Parliamentary Committees, following the boycott of the first meetings. The ruling majority will address a request to the Conference of Chairmen on the issue of parliamentary committees.
On his part, the Head of the SP Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla said that they will propose to the conference that the committee meetings be held in the traditional way, with MPs present in the hall, but maintaining distances, against anti-covid measures. Balla also said that MPs will be asked for a vaccination certificate or a negative Covid test.
"We will propose to the conference of mayors that the meetings be held respecting the distances, the MPs to declare the vaccination certificate. Even in the Italian parliament, the commission does not participate in the meeting without getting the vaccine. The practice of online committee meetings will continue, as long as it is about issues that are not of particular importance, but about issues with extended debate, we will have in-person meetings. I would call on the troubled souls in the DP, that this issue is clear," stated Balla.
