Saudi Arabia Calls for Palestinian State Based on 1967 Borders

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has called for a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders.

Speaking about the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, Mohammed bin Salman has said that innocent civilians are paying for the escalation of violence.

He said that Saudi Arabia opposes the targeting of civilians and emphasizes the importance of respecting international humanitarian law, as well as the need to stop "military operations against civilians and infrastructure that affects their daily lives."

"Conditions must be created for the return of stability and the achievement of lasting peace that will provide a just solution for the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders to achieve security and prosperity for all," said Prince Salman.

A 2017 Hamas document suggested the possibility of embracing the idea of a Palestinian state in territories occupied by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War.

Israel has repeatedly rejected the request, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated that Israel will never retreat to the 1967 borders.
