Seismologist Warns Earthquakes in Kosovo

Seismologist Shemsi Mustafa has declared Monday that Kosovo is located near the area that has high seismic activity, so earthquakes in the future are not excluded, but are expected to be of lower intensity than those that have occurred in Croatia, Albania, Greece or Turkey.

In a conversation with the local Kosovo media, Mustafa said that this area has been hit by strong earthquakes in the last three years.

"Based on the seismic activity that has been in the area for three years, which has hit many countries and many territories, starting from Croatia, Albania, Greece, Turkey, this area in the past has generated many very strong earthquakes with over 7 degrees that can be in the future, strong earthquakes can be generated.

Based on the fact that this is a seismic area that is the contact of two plates and from high pressure generates occasional earthquakes, but these three years we had strong earthquakes based on the fact that this area is very active in terms of seismic, in fact Kosovo is very close to these areas that Kosovo can respond with terms but not of intensity like the countries we mentioned", stated Mustafa.

Also, the seismologist said that it is not possible to know when there will be earthquakes, as the earthquakes’ time cannot be determined.

"The earthquake has no time, but based on the photos of the danger, based on the periods of repetition are the places or areas that can be hit. "Last night's earthquake has a market that has a continuity in this area with the contact of two plates, because a few days ago we had an earthquake in Crete and this shows that it is a very active seismic area", he said.

Earth tremor was felt last night also in Kosovo as the 5.4-magnitude quake struck 6 kilometers northwest of the Greek city of Florina, while tremors were heard in 7 countries in the region.

Seismologist Shemsi Mustafa said that Greece is an area with high seismic activity, so there is no calmness for it.
