Serbian Army Launches Military Exercises along Kosovo's Border

Military forces of Serbia have started military exercises along the border with Kosovo, the official Belgrade announced.

Serbia's Ministry of Defense stressed that special importance will be given to combat training in case of any attack on the unit, tactics, techniques and procedures used to prevent illegal crossings, activities of extremist groups and organized crime.

Furthermore, it added that the Serbian armed forces, deployed in the Land Security Zone along Kosovo, conduct training throughout the year both before the deployment, but also for the implementation of the tasks they have in the Land Security Zone.

This, according to Serbian defense authorities, "ensures a high level of ability to respond to all challenges, risks and threats that fall within their area of ??responsibility."

These exercises come at a time when, from September 1, Serbia for the first time in 11 years will not issue entry/exit documents to Kosovo citizens, but will allow them to use their IDs.

Kosovo will do the same for the citizens of Serbia. The parties agreed on this agreement on August 27, after the mediation of diplomats from the United States and the European Union, REL wrote.

Lifting of entry/exit documents followed the escalation of tensions between the two states, as local Serbs in the north erected barricades to oppose the Kosovo Government's decisions on these documents, but also on the re-registration of cars.

On September 1, the two-month deadline for the re-registration of cars circulating in the north of Kosovo, which are issued by Serbia, also begins.
