Serbs in Northern Kosovo Protest again, EU to Discuss Tense Situation

Protest of the Serbs in the north of Kosovo started this Thursday for the fourth day in a row, as dozens of protesters have gathered in front of the municipality of Zveçani and Leposaviq, where the KFOR mission has deployed security measures.

Citizens in Zveçan have started gathering since the early hours of the morning, but in smaller numbers than yesterday.

The employees of the Temporary Authority of the Municipality of Zve?ani, which operates under the Serbian system, are being registered in the list of employees that is placed on a table, as proof that they "come to work".

In Leposavic, a small number of Serbian protesters have gathered. The municipal facility is being guarded by the Kosovo Police, while KFOR forces are not currently on the ground.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the 27 countries of the European Union and 20 other European countries are meeting today in Chisinau, Moldova, to discuss a series of issues, among them the tensions in the north of Kosovo, the Reuters news agency reported.

The head of the EU's foreign policy, Josep Borrell, is expected to meet there with the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i?.

A day earlier, Borrell met the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, in Bratislava. In a post on Twitter after the meeting, Borrell said that the situation in northern Kosovo is "dangerous and unstable".

"We need urgent extension and solution through dialogue", he said.
