Special Forces Conduct Controls in High Security Prisons
The Prisons Operational Forces have undertaken an action by carrying out checks in all high security prisons in the country.
The controls come after the event in the high security prison of Peqin, where Sokol Mjacja inside the premises of the IEVP killed Arben Lleshi with a firearm and injured Ilir Shaqja.
It is learned that controls are being carried out to find and seize illegal items.
The incident happened while some of the prisoners were outside the cell, in the ventilation areas. Among them is Mjacaj, who, according to still unofficial data, is suspected to have approached the window of Lleshi's cell, calling him by name. The moment he appeared, Mjacaj is said to have fired several bullets at him, one of which caught the other convict Shaqja, who was in the cell with him. Mjacaj then, according to the sources, was withdrawn to an internal environment and only after long talks with the prison authorities, he surrendered.
The police have not yet issued an official response to the incident, while the Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, did not provide details on the crime in the statement to the media, saying that investigations are underway.
The main question is how a firearm was managed to get into a maximum security prison. The first doubts are those of the possible use of a drone.
In 2016, Mjacaj killed two Czech tourists during a robbery. The other convicts who were shot by him were also accused of murder. Lleshi had killed an Albanian in Great Britain in 2012, while Shaqja is the perpetrator of the murder of two elderly women in Durrës, in 2016, during a robbery.
