The First Group of Migrants Left on a Navy Ship for the Centers Set up in Albania

According to reports, the Navy ship Libra has left Lampedusa with the first group of migrants destined for the centers set up in Albania. The Ministry of the Interior is taking care of the initiative. Last Saturday, the Minister Matteo Piantedosi had announced the imminent start of the transfers: "We expect to start as early as next week" and "realistically since - there is a certain continuity in the departures - the first people will be taken to the centers in Albania", he had said. In recent days, the centers of Schengjin and Gjiader have become operational and will have to accommodate the transferred migrants.

The Shengjin center is subject to strong security measures, so that the people who will be hosted inside the facility do not leave without authorization. In addition, offices have been set up for interviews to which migrants will be subjected to begin the examination of their asylum applications. The protocol provides that migrants will arrive at the Shengjin center to carry out the initial procedures and, subsequently, will be transferred to Gjader. The Gjader facility, similar in activity to a Repatriation Detention Center (CPR), will host all those who, after the examination of their asylum application that will take place in the Shengjin center, are deemed suitable.
