There Is Need of Regional Cohesion Between Balkans' Countries; Kulla

Expert of Security Issues and analyst, Ilir Kulla has called for regional cohesion between Balkans' Countries in order to better face problems that may arise in the future.

According to Kulla, all Balkan countries want to become part of the EU, but important factors there want no expansion of the Union. Kulla added that if Balkan countries would have been part of the EU, then Serbia wouldn't dare to do such things it has been doing in Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina or Kosovo.

These statements were made during his speech at the conference "Russian Influence in the Balkans - Crisis in Ukraine" was organized Saturday by "The Geopost" in Pristina, where diplomats, professors and security experts had their speeches.

"The whole part of what I call 'civil society' is in a hurry, which quickly forgets the history of relations with Serbs, whether with the Open Balkans, the change of borders, or the things that have happened in recent years. There are some things I do not agree with the ambassador. He mentioned himself, what happened in Montenegro, with the overthrow of Djukanovic, some media even calling it the regime of Djukanovic, would not have happened if part of those who should have been our partners in the meantime forgot where the main threat was. We in Albania have been hostage to a process that has begun and is not ending, the so-called Justice Reform, which has become a political instrument. The same thing happened in Montenegro. We are part of NATO and there is no NATO without the Americans, but that does not stop us from doing our homework. Homework should be done by us. Interests change along the way. 43% of the gas that EU countries receive comes from Russia and this is concrete interest. These days we have seen, the gas that is the main source has not been sanctioned. My interest becomes greater than your interest. Our governments have made mistakes in the last 20 years, especially in foreign investment matters. Serbia has behaved wiser than us in foreign investment. They have brought the locomotives of the western capital to Belgrade and for this reason, some of the western governments have turned the sphere of relations with Belgrade, because it is an interest. We need to reflect on our mistakes. What happened in Montenegro is a mistake. I hope the government falls there, but I hope there is no other surprise. That is why there is a need for regional cohesion between us, between all the Balkan countries. It is a map of interests. We are countries that want to be with the west, but a very important part of the west does not even think about enlargement. But where will we go without enlargement? Enlargement is a frozen process. Serbia would never have the courage to do what it is doing in Montenegro, what it is doing in Bosnia, or what it has done in Kosovo if our region were part of the EU. Serbia is not a scary lion, but it is a country with many internal problems that knows what loss and defeat are. What we need to do is reflect on the past. We need a reflection of common cohesion. We have each other, of course without NATO and without the US we can not do this, but we can not expect from heaven but we must do it ourselves", stated Kulla.
