Tirana, Journalist Taken Down to Ground by Police in Line of Duty

Drugs elimination operation was conducted this Tuesday in “Varri i Bamit” area of Tirana, when reporter Ergys Gjençaj was spotted by the officers and was neutralized by being lied on the ground as he was filming.

According to the reporter, he was pulled and pushed by the policemen just because he was filming, as they suspected for a moment even that he was a collaborator of the criminals.

At the time of the incident, the police was looking for the head of drug dealers, whom they had to arrest. The drug dealers had a cover-up of pizza delivery network for their operation, revealed the media where the concerned reporter is employed.

“The moment the policemen approached me while I was filming, they pulled me, pushed me and I was out of the car. The first shots were taken inside the car. I went out to continue our mission.

And at that moment after the cars that had stopped left, the cops, I continued to shoot, approached me, told me: who are you, what do you do, collaborator. It was also a very delicate moment.

It was the first time I faced something like that in 20 years of profession. They laid me on the ground, on my stomach, I did not resist. I told them I was a journalist. They held me for a few minutes on my stomach, placed me on the stairs”, said Gjençaj.
