Tourists rescued after injury in Albania’s Gjipe Canyon
Emergency services in southern Albania successfully rescued two tourists who became stranded in Gjipe Canyon after one of them suffered a broken leg during a hike on difficult terrain, authorities said on Saturday.
The injured tourist was evacuated from the canyon on a stretcher and transported to Himara Hospital for medical treatment.
The rescue operation involved firefighters from Himara, the Himara Police Station, the Dhërmi Border Police unit, and emergency medical teams from Himara Hospital, authorities said. Officials said coordinated efforts enabled the operation to be completed despite challenging terrain and limited access.
Authorities have repeatedly warned that similar incidents have occurred in Gjipe Canyon in the past and urged visitors to take precautions when exploring the area and ensure they are properly equipped for hiking in rugged conditions.
