Ukrainian MP Calls for Recognition of Kosovo

Ukrainian politician Oleksiy Goncharenko has called for the recognition of Kosovo as a state. The member of the European Solidarity Party, of former president Petro Poroshenko, says that in principle his idea is supported and that it is one of the most discussed public topics in Ukraine.

"Before February 24, some people said that if Ukraine accepts Kosovo, then Russia can justify what happened in Crimea and Donbas. But after February 24, the whole world already understood that it was only an invasion of Russia and not the real will. I think the time has come for Ukraine to recognize Kosovo", said Goncharenko.

Goncharenko emphasized that Ukraine should support Kosovo, perhaps even militarily if necessary, and for this he has received threats.

“The Russians have so far planned to kill me twice and kidnap me once. So these threats are just nothing," said Goncharenko.

The politician adds that the comparison of the case of Kosovo's declaration of independence from Moscow serves to justify the "occupation of Ukrainian territories".

Goncharenko has submitted a draft resolution to the Ukrainian Parliament, calling for his country to recognize Kosovo's independence.

"I submitted to the Ukrainian Parliament a resolution on the recognition of Kosovo's independence. Ukraine shares Western values ??and will support democracy anywhere in the world. I hope that Ukraine will recognize Kosovo's independence as soon as possible", he wrote on Twitter on August 6.
