Vucic Meets Escobar, Lajcak over Northern Kosovo Tensions

A meeting between the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the envoy of the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, as well as the envoy of the European Union on the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, is being held this Tuesday afternoon in Belgrade.

In this meeting where the escalation of tensions in the North will be discussed, the head of the EU Delegation in Belgrade, Emanuele Giofre, as well as the American ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill, will participate.

Tensions in the north of Kosovo escalated again after the elections were held in the 4 municipalities in the north of Kosovo. Since Lista Serbe boycotted the elections, the internationals expressed regret, but did not stop the Kosovo government from holding the elections.

The north of Kosovo held the elections but even the citizens did not vote, despite the low turnout, in the 4 municipalities in the north of Kosovo, the two major Albanian parties in Kosovo, PDK and LVV shared the powers, each winning 2 municipalities.

On the part of the internationals, there was regret for not participating in the elections, however, they did not consider them unconstitutional. It was this rhetoric of the internationals, i.e. the USA and the EU, that actually fueled the tensions.

Not receiving an alert signal for the elections in the north, Kurti also sees them as legal, on the other hand, the Serbs in the north of Kosovo started the protests since May 26.
