Who Is Opposition's Candidate Arrested for Vote-Buying
Opposition's candidate for Himara, Fredi Beleri has a long political and justice history in Albania. He was convicted for incitement and national hatred and was investigated as being involved in the "Peshkepi Massacre".
Fredi Beleri was reconfirmed as the opposition candidate for the municipality of Himara, but this is not the first time he aspires to this position. In 2015, he would run under the banner of PBDNJ (Unity for Human Rights Party) without being declared the winner.
Beleri would try to run in 2019 for the municipality of Himara as an independent candidate, but was not allowed by the Central Election Commission. The reason was the violations that were found in the decriminalization form.
Fredi Beleri was sentenced to 3 years in prison for incitement and nationalist hatred, a decision given by the court of Vlora in 2003. Beleri was also investigated on the "Peshkepi Massacre", the file which was reopened several times but without success, being archived without perpetrators. For the last time, it was reopened in 2019 by the former Prosecutor's Office for Serious Crimes to be dismissed by SPAK (Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime). The border post branch of Peshkepia in Gjirokastër was attacked on April 10, 1994.
The post branch was faced with an attack by Greek aggressors, who, after killing the guard, soldier Arsen Gjini and the commander of the department, the first captain, Fatmir Shehu, wounded other operatives and robbed all the weapons in retreat.
