Wildfires Spread Across Fier and Kavajë as Strong Winds Fuel Fast-Moving Flames
Multiple wildfire outbreaks have been reported across southern Albania, with flames rapidly spreading through agricultural and rural areas amid strong winds.
In Drizë, within the Fier municipality, a large area of olive groves has been engulfed by fire. Fueled by gusty winds, the flames have spread toward the village of Peshtan and in the direction of water supply facilities that serve the city of Fier with drinking water.
Firefighting teams are currently on the ground battling the blaze, supported by local residents who have joined efforts using improvised tools. Authorities are also preparing aerial support to help contain the fire, as ground operations struggle to control its rapid spread.
Preliminary suspicions suggest the fire may have been deliberately set, although police have not yet confirmed any cause and investigations are ongoing.
