Works on Kukes Airport’s Construction to End by February 2021
Work for the building of Kukes International Airport have advanced significantly and it is intended that they be completed by the end of February so that there is time for the tests necessary to be certified as an international airport, informed Wednesday the Administrator of “Kukes International Airport†concessionary society Ridgers Mema.
Mema released this information during the visit of the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku in the airport’s construction site. In this inspection, the Minister was accompanied by the mayor of Kukes, Safet Gjici and other representatives of the concessionary company.
"Unfortunately, all the existing facilities at Kukës airport were out of standard and we had to demolish them or we are waiting to demolish them, such as the tower, the warehouse and the old terminal. Everything has been built from scratch, because all the existing facilities could not meet the conditions, especially the distances from the runway, to enable air navigation", explained Mema.
On her part, Balluku said that several companies are working on the construction of Kukës Airport at the same time and in addition to the Albanian ones, the Dutch company NACO, one of the most famous companies in the world in the field of civil aviation.
"We are in an airport, which was built for military purposes, with other parameters, which do not match the parameters of civil aviation, so despite the fact that it has always been said that Kukes airport exists there and it is suffices to make some modifications, here is being built practically a new airport, said the Minister Balluku among other things.
