1,200 Police Officers Deployed Ahead of Student Protest in Tirana
Students are set to stage a protest today at 2:00 p.m. outside the Ministry of Education, amid heightened security measures and uncertainty over the demonstration's route and format.
The exact itinerary and how the gathering will unfold remain unclear, particularly after tensions escalated at several points during a similar protest last week.
According to journalist Anila Hoxha, authorities have mobilized approximately 1,200 police officers as part of the security plan for today's demonstration.
The deployment includes public order police units, Rapid Intervention Forces (FNSH), which will be stationed near key institutions, as well as police water cannon vehicles.
Police stations across Tirana have also assigned officers and agents to help maintain public order and ensure public safety, in line with the daily operational deployment plan.
Another key element of the security arrangements concerns the enforcement of Normative Act No. 5, dated October 28, 2026.
In the event of violations of Article 24/1, Paragraph 2, administrative measures, including fines, will be imposed by the Public Order Police, according to the announced security plan.
The normative act is currently being challenged before Albania's Constitutional Court. Representatives of civil society and students have filed an appeal, requesting a review of its constitutionality.
Today's demonstration comes amid growing tensions surrounding the disputed legislation, with attention focused on both the students' planned protest and the authorities' response.
