Istanbul Airport continues to hold first place in Europe for the number of commercial flights. In the first seven months of 2026, 306,595 flights were made from Istanbul's main airport, according to Eurostat data, based on Eurocontrol statistics and processed by Monitor.

After Istanbul, Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris ranks with 273,728 flights, Heathrow in London with 271,870, Schiphol in Amsterdam with 271,418 and Madrid-Barajas with 255,607 flights. The top ten also include Frankfurt with 250,150 flights, Barcelona with 211,898, Rome Fiumicino with 185,519, Munich with 173,615, and Athens with 157,672 flights during the period January-July. The data refers to the number of commercial flights, not the number of passengers.

Tirana International Airport registered 44,972 flights in the first seven months of 2026, ranking 61st in Europe. Growth in recent years has been rapid. In the same period in 2022, TIA had only 20,283 flights.

In the Western Balkans, the airport with the highest number of flights remains Belgrade Nikola Tesla, with 50,280 flights in the first seven months of the year. Tirana comes close behind with 44,972 flights.

However, the difference between the two airports has narrowed significantly. In 2022, Belgrade registered 33,067 flights in seven months, compared to Tirana's 20,283. By 2026, flights in Belgrade had increased by about 52%, while in Tirana by about 122%.
