Albania Cracks Down on Illegal Construction, Fines Reach €12 Million

Albania’s Interior Minister Albana Koçiu has announced a sweeping crackdown on illegal construction and territorial abuse, warning that violations of building permits “will no longer be rewarded.”

Speaking during a meeting of the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party, Koçiu said authorities have identified 252 entities that breached construction permits, while 447 illegal buildings or unauthorized additions have been demolished. Administrative fines totaling €12 million have also been imposed.

“We are sending a clear message: abuse of territory will no longer be rewarded,” Koçiu said, emphasizing that protection of public interest and enforcement of the rule of law remain central to the government’s agenda.
