Albania Dismisses Ambassador to NATO
Albania's President Bajram Begaj has issued a decree relieving Ilir Gjoni from his post as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Nato.
The decree, which takes effect immediately, follows a proposal from Prime Minister Edi Rama, in line with constitutional and legal procedures for the foreign service.
No official reasons for the decision have been disclosed by the relevant institutions.
Mr Gjoni was appointed to lead Albania's mission to Nato in September 2023, after serving as ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
He has a nearly 30-year career in various governmental and non-governmental roles, including over a decade as a career diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
