Albania-Greece Agree on Preventing Illegalities in Border

Greece and Albania have reached an agreement to have a joint mission to prevent the influx of migrants and trafficking in drugs or illegal goods across the border. 

The parties have agreed to have a joint center where Albanians and Greeks will work together, while the center will be located on the territorial border of Greece. 

This center is expected to be tested for about a month and now, in addition to Frontex, there will be increased border controls by both parties, both Greek and Albanian. 

In accordance with national law and with the exception of international judicial cooperation, the Authorities shall cooperate in: 

- Joint assessment and analysis, based on available data and information, in order to perform risk analysis; 
- Assistance and coordination of activities 
- Cooperation with other centers for police and customs cooperation. 

The exchange of information will take place in the areas of: 

- Illegal migration, smuggling of migrants and refugees/trafficking in human beings and related illegal activities; 

- Violent extremism and recruitment of foreign fighters; 

- Crimes and violations related to the forgery of travel documents, identity cards, visas and residence permits, including models of documents used to carry out illegal activities; 

- Crimes and violations related to illegal cultivation, production, export, transport and trafficking of narcotics or weapons, 

- Crimes and violations related to motor vehicles, as well as other cross-border violations and illegalities.
