The Albania Nurses Association made a statement following the second tragic event that occurred at the Shefqet Ndroqi hospital, where another patient ended his life, jumping from the fourth floor.

This association lists the reasons that may lead to these incidents, while raising the alarm that due to huge load of work even doctors and nurses may commit suicide? 

"Why are Covid-19 patients committing suicide?

The second case is recorded in Shefqet Ndroqi Hospital, where a patient jumped off from the fourth floor of the hospital finding death.

We are the only place that lacks medical staff for patient service. With the capacity of medical staff where almost half of them are affected with Covid-19 there can be no quality service to patients.

2. Lack of service of social workers, psychologists, etc. lead patients to such a condition, when it is known that most patients suffer serious damage both emotionally and psychologically in addition to the disease they have

3. Total isolation from family members by not allowing any form of contact with them creates psychological stress for these patients (often even telephone contacts are not allowed)

4. Use of certain medications either causes bleeding in patients or creates thromboembolism in them.

5. When a patient passes away he is kept in the same room with another patient until the moment he is taken by forensic medicine and in this situation a coronavirus patient suffers a psychological shock.

These and many other factors are affecting coronavirus patients psychologically. For how long the institutions and responsible persons will remain silent?

The only thing left for us is to pray for the sick.

After Covid-19 patients, the turn of suicides may be the responsibility of the Health staff due to the overload they have at work and the service they provide to patients.

If the staff continues to be infected and commit suicide, who will serve tomorrow in hospitals and health centers?" said Albania Nurses Association.
