Police in Durrës have arrested a 34-year-old man accused of trafficking firearms from Kosovo into Albania, allegedly with the intention of selling them to criminal groups, authorities said.

The arrest was made in Maminas, as part of a police operation codenamed “Hallkat,” targeting the trafficking of firearms and ammunition.

Police said officers stopped and searched the vehicle in which the suspect was traveling and found three pistols and 34 rounds of ammunition, which investigators suspect had been trafficked from Kosovo. The vehicle was also carrying a 39-year-old woman from Prizren, Kosovo, who was arrested on suspicion of failing to report the alleged crime.

A subsequent search of the 34-year-old suspect’s home in Kukës uncovered a metal knuckle weapon, according to police.

The suspect, identified by authorities as M. B., is facing charges of firearms and ammunition trafficking and the unauthorized possession, purchase or sale of cold weapons. The woman, identified as D. N., has been charged with failing to report a crime.

Police said the operation was carried out by officers from the Durrës Police Directorate’s Narcotics Investigation Section, in cooperation with its Special Operations Force.

Authorities said the investigation is continuing to identify other individuals who may have been involved in the alleged trafficking operation. The procedural materials have been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
