Albania Reports 12 Wildfires as Authorities Battle 7 Active Blazes
Albania’s Ministry of Defense, through the Agency for Media and Information, has issued an updated assessment of the country’s wildfire situation, reporting 12 fire incidents recorded across the country as of 2 p.m. local time.
Of the 12 reported fires, seven remain active, while three are under monitoring, according to the latest official update.
A total of 467 operational personnel and 34 firefighting vehicles have been deployed in efforts to contain and extinguish the fires. Albania’s Armed Forces are supporting the operations with 120 personnel, two firefighting vehicles, two helicopters and two Air Tractor aircraft.
Authorities provided the following updates from the main affected areas:
- Mount Dajti, Tirana: Firefighting operations are continuing with the support of 50 Armed Forces personnel and two helicopters. Authorities say there is no immediate threat to populated areas.
- Gurë-Lurë, Dibër: The operation involves 180 municipal personnel, 15 police officers, 30 Armed Forces personnel and two Air Tractor aircraft. There is currently no threat to homes.
- Qafë Helmës: The fire has been extinguished from the Bulqizë side and is continuing only toward Selishtë, with no threat to populated areas.
- Bruç, Mat: Operations are continuing in difficult terrain, with no reported risk to homes.
- Lufaj, Mirditë: Emergency structures continue to operate in the area, while two Armed Forces firefighting vehicles remain on standby near homes in the Caraj neighborhood.
- Fushë-Lajë, Pukë: Firefighting efforts are continuing with personnel from local emergency services, forestry and municipal structures, volunteers and 40 Armed Forces personnel. Authorities report no threat to populated areas.
Officials continue to monitor the situation and coordinate firefighting operations in the affected areas as efforts remain focused on containing the active fires and protecting nearby communities.
