Albania Steps Up Security Coordination After U.S. Embassy Alert, Interior Minister Says
Interior Minister Besford Lamallari said authorities have intensified coordination with U.S. officials following a recent security alert issued by the American embassy in Tirana.
Lamallari confirmed that he has instructed counterterrorism structures to maintain direct communication with the embassy’s security office, underscoring ongoing cooperation between Albanian institutions and international partners.
“Just last evening, I requested that our counterterrorism units stay in close contact with the U.S. Embassy’s security office,” Lamallari said, adding that heightened security measures had already been in place prior to the embassy’s statement.
According to the minister, Albania’s State Police have been operating under reinforced security protocols for some time, taking into account global developments and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He noted that a comprehensive action plan involving all relevant institutions is already being implemented.
Lamallari sought to reassure the public, stressing that the country remains safe despite concerns raised by recent warnings.
“Albania remains a safe country for citizens and tourists, regardless of posts you may read that originate from Iran,” he said.
The statement comes amid heightened political and security attention following the U.S. Embassy’s warning about potential threats, as Albanian authorities continue to coordinate closely with international partners to ensure stability.
